Casey Goodson Jr. Birthday Celebration

Events planned for Martin Luther King weekend had to be postponed due to threats of violence from right wing hate groups. The event shifted to a celebration of what should have been the 24t birthday of Casey Goodson Jr. Hosted by Black Abolitionist Collective of Ohio, People's Justice Project, SURG Columbus, and the Central Ohio Freedom Fund. Speakers included Sheronda Byrd-Givens, Tania Hudson, Adrienne Hood, Chana Wiley, Marcia Phipps, and Tamala Payne, who all lost family members to Central Ohio officers since 2015. Also in attendance, attorney Sean Walton Jr. and house representative, Erica Crawley

Domestic Terrorism Threat

Following a speech by then President, Donald Trump, who encouraged his audience to “Fight like hell, or there wont be any government,” right wing Americans attempted an insurrection. In light of glaring lapses in security and intelligence, statehouses around the country remained in a heightened state of security in the days leading up to and immediately following the January 20, 2021 inauguration of Joseph R. Biden

Mothers of black men and children killed by Columbus Police, speak about the ongoing trauma and grief that followed the murders of their loved ones. Organized by members and affiliates of the Heartbeat Movement

Community leaders and organizers held a demonstration on the steps of the Columbus City Hall in response to the ever growing list of citizens killed by the Columbus Police. Speakers included civil rights attorneys Sean Walton Jr. and Michelle Martin, as well as the family members of Deaunte Lamar Bell, Jaron Thomas, Casey Goodson Jr., and Ma'Khia Bryant. All of whom were killed by Columbus Police in recent years.

Juneteenth 2021

Celebrate the end of the enslavement of African-American people in the United States with Juneteenth on June 19. Juneteenth, or June 19, 1865, is considered the date when the last slaves in America were freed in Galveston, Texas after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1st, 1863.

Beautiful first official Juneteenth festival organized by Phenix Banquet Center

It was a day filled with laughter, education, dance, poetry and community support

featuring acts including Karen Hewitt, Werk Dance Fitness, Bucking Jewels Majorette Team, Thiossane Institute, The Amazing Giants, Session 5 and more.
